A GUIDE TO BETTER UNDERSTANDING SOCCER FOOTWEAR:
STEP 1. Shoe Type - This is a glossary to help you understand all the shoes that are available to you and determine which style and brand best fits your type of game.
- Soft Ground Shoes: These shoes are sometimes referred to as detachable studs and are often customized to play on various fields since the studs are interchangeable. Studs are usually sold separately.
- Hard Ground Shoes: These soccer shoes are created for playing on hard ground fields and are often use on turf surfaces. The short rounded or bladed studs are evenly distributed throughout the sole of the shoe, which offers more stability and traction.
- Turf Shoes: These are typically used for hard, short surfaces and can be used for indoor artificial turfs. Turf shoes are great for practices, since they are closer to the ground and therefore also safer. These shoes are a back up for cleats.
Step 2. Correct Shoe Size - This is a guideline to help you determine which shoe best fits your type of foot by measuring the length, width and proper fit, which is essential for every soccer player.
- Length: Soccer shoes are generally sized like regular shoes. We do recommend that you wear soccer shoes close in size to your normal shoes because it is essential for the proper feel and touch of the ball(First Touch).
- Width: Your foot should feel tighter on the sides of your shoes since soccer cleats are constructed with thinner upper materials to ensure proper touch of the ball. Many soccer brands do not offer width sizes, but they do recommend some of their soccer cleats for wider feet.
- Proper Fit: Please try your shoes indoors. Your cleats should feel snug yet comfortable. Do not allow your foot to have movement in your new shoe, since this could cause blisters and less sense for the ball.
